Dealer Spotlight: Meet West Michigan Yacht Sales

We’d like to introduce you to West Michigan Yacht Sales (WMYS), BRIG USA’s dealer in beautiful Holland Michigan. Owned by Rob Everse & Jon Marcus, WMYS has grown by leaps and bounds since 2018 when Jon and Rob took-on the BRIG line.

If you’ve not met Rob of Jon, here’s your chance to learn about WMYS from them.

Tell us about how the product suits your market. Do any models resonate, or have you seen any trends over time?

BRIG is our primary line.  A couple of years ago we recognized a need for a quality line of rigid inflatable boats like BRIG for our market here in West Michigan.  There are only a couple of other dealerships selling RIBs in our area, and we could see a trend toward this style of boating.

We offer a good mix of tenders and primary boats and the design lends itself to the way people want to enjoy their recreational time today.  The lightweight design makes towing with smaller vehicles really appealing so customers can easily travel around the state to explore new areas.   The soft collar takes a fear element away for new boaters that worry about damaging gel-coat.

We have found the ‘ride’ is what really sells these boats.  Once we get a customer on the water, they have a new appreciation for the benefits of a RIB.

We love that BRIG continues to innovate and come out with fresh new boats. The 3 unique lines help tailor the experience to how customers want to use the boats and the ability to customize the boats really help set us apart from the competition.

Did you have to overcome any perceptions about RIBs for buyers to consider them?

There are still some misconceptions about the boats that we must address.  There are some people who simply don’t get it, but we continue to see activity increase and think we have room to convert a bunch more over to our side. As I mentioned eariler, there are so many positives to owning a RIB.

We have recently taken delivery of our first Eagle 8.  The factory hardtop really sets this boat apart from anything else out here and there is a lot of excitement over it. I expect hard-sided owners will take notice of this model and they’ll add the Eagle 8 to their consideration list.

We understand you have a new showroom in Holland. How has the new location changed your business?

We had been driving by this empty building in downtown Holland with large glass bay doors and a glass showroom and thought that place could be perfect for a BRIG boutique.  We took occupancy of the building in late December and began renovations with an opening in mid-March.

The building is 10,000 square feet with about half of that being used as a showroom and has 6 bay doors which works really well for the BRIG product line.  We are located just to the north of the main shopping district and just a half mile from the waterfront providing much better walk-in traffic than we previously had.

We continue to maintain space at our previous location which is a growing large yacht facility but are very excited about the opportunity the new facility will bring.
